Why have an engagement session?

Besides providing you with beautiful, emotional portraits in a causal setting, your engagement session allows us to get to know each other before the big day. Knowing what to expect and feeling more relaxed in front of the camera will help us capture exceptional portraits on your wedding day.

Added bonus is that they go much faster on your wedding day, which means you might get to pop in for your cocktail reception and begin the party early!

How much does a session cost?
Engagement session are offered for complementary and include a reception book with the majority of our wedding packages. If you haven’t hired a wedding photographer, we should talk!

For a stand-alone session, the fee is $600 and that includes a custom designed reception book and an online gallery. You’ll also receive a discount on any additional purchases that are made at your ordering session like digital files, prints, canvas or Save the Date cards.

Call 703.715.VITA or email us at jennifer@vitaimages.com! We will need to check your wedding date to ensure we are available, so don’t wait to get in touch.

Our dates start to fill in fast, especially during the summer and fall wedding season. To hold your date, you will need to select one of packages or have a custom package made up for you, sign the contract, and pay a $1800 retainer fee that is applied towards your final balance. All of this can be done through our easy online booking system – no stamps or driving required!

How long does a session take?
Our sessions usually take about two to three hours depending on number of locations and clothing changes.
We don’t know where to go, do you have cool ideas?
The first thing we will say about engagement session locations is that they should mean something to you, if possible. Cool locations are awesome but taking a photo at the first place you kissed is also pretty amazing!

We will send you a questionnaire that will help you think about where you hang out, maybe where you met, a hobby you share, or something really enjoying doing together.

If you just can’t come up with something, we always have idea of unique locations and we can make it special for the two of you. Just to note – in the DC area some locations may require special fees or permits.

What should we wear?
  • Wear something you love that fits well, flatters your figure, and enhances your best features.
  • Coordinate, but don’t match. Pull a color from your dress into his shirt, vest, or tie.
  • Layers always look great – vests, ties, jackets, scarves, hats, and accessories.
  • Be sure the outfit fits your personality.
  • Keep the same feel for your outfits – you both should be dressy, casual, vintage, cowboy, or high fashion depending on your style.

What is a reception book?
A reception book is a lay-flat photo book with photos from your engagement session. It has blank space for guests to write their well wishes at your wedding.

Families rave about our reception books – it is a keepsake you will treasure for years to come.

When should we schedule our session?
If you’re planning on using the images for save-the-date cards or wedding invitations, we should schedule your session no later than 6 to 8 months before your wedding date.  If we are just doing an engagement session and reception book then we suggest 2 to 3 months in advance.
Do you provide the digital files, the “disk”?
The color-corrected, high-resolution files are available for purchase after your session. If you purchase the high-resolution files we also provide a release granting you permission to make all the prints your heart desires.
Can we share our photos via social networking?
We provide a selection of watermarked photos on our blog and Vita Images Facebook page from your session that you can share with friends and family.
